GRANDPAS PARLOUR

There’s nothing better than ice cream on a hot summer’s day. And a stop at Bellevue’s very own Grandpa’s Parlour is the perfect place to buy a satisfying cool treat. With 30 flavors of ice cream, rotated daily, you’re sure to find something yummy and delicious.

Stepping through the doors at Grandpa’s is like stepping back in time, with its old-time ice cream shop décor complete with swivel stools at the counter and malt-shop style table and chairs for seating. Whether a hand-dipped ice cream cone, a decadent sundae or a refreshing malt or float, Grandpa’s truly is a fun place to visit when in Bellevue.

Some of their favorite ice cream specialties include the Brownie Barge, Banana Boat, or a classic cookie dough waffle cone. Besides great ice cream, they also serve breakfast and lunch. Some customer menu favorites include the Chicken Salad BLT for lunch or the Mount Rushmore for breakfast.

ABOUT THE SHOP

Owner Kristi Maier’s grandparents opened Grandpa’s in 1986 serving basic ice cream flavors as well as offering light sandwiches. Kristi bought and took over the business 1996. In 2000, an extra room was opened up allowing her to expand the menu to include delicious breakfasts.

Kristi was living and working in Cedar Rapids, commuting each weekend to run her sweet little ice cream shop. To help out she brought in Eric Flatjord, who was managing a bar in Cedar Rapids. Eric immediately fell in love with our quaint river town and its friendly people. It took no convincing for him to hop on for the ride and he’s loved the business ever since.

In the summer you’ll find Eric scooping out ice cream, in the kitchen preparing great breakfasts and lunches, mingling with the customers, and even waiting on tables when needed. On weekends, Kristi still makes the commute from Cedar Rapids to put her time in at one of her favorite places … Grandpa’s Parlour.
